Variety honors Charlize Theron

Variety's Timothy Grey with Shailene Woodley Company directors Gareth Evans, Zal Batmanglij, Phillipe Falardeau, Mike McCoy, Scott Waugh, Gerardo Naranjo, Matt Piedmont, Michael Roskam and Lynn Shelton join Variety s Steven Gaydos at Palm Springs brunch. Variety's Indie Impact and 10 Company directors to look at 2012 brunch unspooled under vivid blue desert skies Sunday in the Parker Hotel in Palm Springs. Honoree Charlize Theron stated, "I've the career I've today due to independent films," crediting "Monster" helmer Patty Jenkins with seeing her potential. All of the company directors she's labored with deserve credit, she came to the conclusion, "even the poor quality ones.Inch Variety's Steven Gaydos introduced the ten helmers to look at, saying, "What they've in keeping is really a resolve for indie cinema -- even if they create a studio film, it feels independent." One of the company directors in the relaxed event were Mexican helmer Gerardo Naranjo, who stated he's almost wishing "Miss Bala" does not get Oscar nommed so he is able to leave the campaign trail and to work. "Seem of My Voice" helmer Zal Batmanglij stated his next film, "The East," will even feature "Voice" star Brit Marling, this time around inside a story in regards to a lady who infiltrates an anarchist group. Also brunching around the Parker lawn were Palm Springs Film Fest director Darryl Macdonald, fest chairman Harold Matzner and artistic director Helen du Toit, in addition to thesps Shailene Woodley, Robert Forster and Erectile dysfunction Lauter.
