Critic: Flimsy, Terrible Movie Will Make You Happy

“I do like the Fox series […], but I’d resisted the idea of the concert film. It just seemed an inherently thin idea. And when compared with some of the greats, say Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz on the Band, exceptional for both its music and its insight, it is. But a hallmark of the show, in addition to some of the best musical mash-ups ever, is its celebration of differences, an ode to the outsiders that pack high school hallways. Those kids get an almost equal voice here. […] Glee represents validation, as significant as the enjoyment to be had from all those show-stopping Broadway-styled productions. So if you’re feeling down, and troubled, and you need a helping hand…” Yeah, actually, I do. Can the Glee movie run to Home Depot and get me some batteries? [LAT]

The Rock Confirms Bruce Willis in 'G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation'

After much speculation and a whole lot of hoping, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently confirmed via Twitter that Bruce Willis is officially on board for 'G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation.' Joining the likes of Johnson, The RZA, and Channing Tatum, Willis will most likely be taking on the iconic role of General Joe Colton (the original G.I. Joe). Still no word on the story behind Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's script and still no reaction from Willis, but if the eclectic cast is any indication, director Jon Chu might just have a winner on his hands come June 29, 2012. Now that Willis is on board, do you think 'G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation' will be better than the first movie? [via Twitter] Photo courtesy of 20th Century Fox.

Mary-Louise Parker In Talks to Join R.I.P.D. Opposite Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges

Marijuana empress Nancy Botwin has turned herself over to the fuzz: Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker is in negotiations to join the cast of R.I.P.D., a film based on Peter Lenkov’s graphic novel that chronicles “a cop killed in the line of duty (Ryan Reynolds) who is recruited by a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department.” She’ll a play woman who oversees the division. Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, and Jeff Bridges — a dude who single-handedly doubles this movie’s marijuana cred — co-star. What other pot icons will director Robert Schwentke (Schwentke!) cast next? I vote for Cheech Marin as the voice of a talking K9. [Variety]

Now -- just just before its unspooling in the Toronto Worldwide Film Festival -- Millennium has launched the very first trailer for that film ... plus some writers think it's completely bad. (Begin To See The Playlist, Collider, FirstShowing, amongst others). We will not know before film opens -- March. 14, before striking DVD and VOD on November. 1 -- but here's a clip, preceded through the official synopsis. Inform us what you believe. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Talk Breaking Dawn Sex Scene

Now that Summit Entertainment has tracked down (and publicly blasted) that troublesome Breaking Dawn pirate, the studio can get back to promoting The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, due in theaters this November 18. And what better way to build buzz about Bill Condon’s next installment of the popular vampire series than to have its stars talk about their eagerly-anticipated sex scene? In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stewart and Pattinson discuss the necessity of the butter-hued honeymoon scene, and how they would have changed it ever so slightly if they could have. Kristen laughs, “Of course we had to have that!” Her co-star concurs, but wishes the scene had been tweaked a bit.“I wanted to have it as a line so much,” Robert says. “[In an American/Edward accent] ‘I bit through all the pillows. Every. Single. One.’ And then he’d start crying. By the way, that’s what he should be ashamed of in the morning. All those beautiful pillows! Egyptian cotton! [Laughs] “I ruined this bed!” Stewart revealed that she also enjoyed acting out the results of said honeymoon scene — her character’s pregnancy, which is surprisingly not embraced by both Bella and Edward. “For a saga which is about eternal, undying love that nothing can touch, suddenly…” Stewart interjects, “There’s one thing that can. That was fun to play. Bella’s always liked him and liked everything he said and thought everything he did was right. This is something that she clearly disagrees with. She doesn’t mindlessly and blindly follow him. She was always kind of defiant. I like that.” What do you guys think? Well, everyone except for you, Kiowa Gordon. Unite for Strength forwards 34 for SAG seats

ShalhoubCollinsHowardUnite for Strength, which has dominated politics at the Screen Actors Guild for the past three years, has unveiled its slate of 34 candidates for Hollywood seats, including first-time contenders Tony Shalhoub, Stephen Collins, Kate Flannery, Lisa Vidal and Iqbal Theba. The faction's slate, announced Thursday, comprises well over half of the 57 candidates for Hollywood seats, and underlines the waning influence of the self-styled progressive wing -- which isn't running a slate and has decided to abandon the Membership First label temporarily. The Unite for Strength slate includes incumbent national board members Adam Arkin, L. Scott Caldwell and Ned Vaughn, the public voice of UFS and its First VP.Ballots will be mailed to SAG members Aug. 23 and tabulated Sept. 22; about a third of the seats on the 71-member board are up for election in the contest. Hollywood seats comprise about 60% of the board with another 25% from New York.Notable opposition candidates from the progressive side -- which has urged a more assertive stance at the bargaining table and voiced skepticism about a merger with AFTRA -- includes incumbents Scott Bakula, David Jolliffe and William Mapother and former national board members Renee Aubrey, George Coe, Valerie Harper and Esai Morales.Current SAG president Ken Howard heads the UFS slate and announced in June that he was running for re-election along with secretary-treasurer Amy Aquino; they're also running for board seats. Howard will face a trio of indie candidates for president in David Hillberg, Asmar Muhammad and Sharon Rubin while Aquino's running unopposed for secretary-treasurer.Unite for Strength has taken over leadership of SAG by stressing moderation and pragmatism and pledging to push for a merger with the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists, with official committees working on hammering out a merger plan by January."Two years ago, I promised members I would do everything possible to bring SAG and AFTRA together, so performers would no longer face the serious problems that come from being divided in two unions," Howard said in a statement Thursday. "Members have made it clear they need action as soon as possible, and I'm committed to delivering a formal merger plan by January. With an outstanding team like this leading SAG, I know it will happen." Shalhoub said he decided to run because of a trip he made to Madison, Wis., in March to support public employee union members. "I grew up in a union town, and as an actor I've always known there was a union behind me," Shalhoub said. "What I learned from my trip to Wisconsin in March was that we must never take our union protections for granted and we must not be divided. Madison's courage inspired me to step up, get involved, and fight for unity."The SAG election is likely to be seen as a referendum on the merger plan with AFTRA. A member vote could take place by the spring by the 120,000 members of SAG and the 70,000 members of AFTRA -- with 45,000 members belonging to both and approval requiring a 60% super-majority from those voting in both unions. SAG members rebuffed similar efforts in 1998 and 2003 amid concerns that a merger would cause SAG to lose its character as an actors union and that a combo could negatively impact the health and pension plans. In last fall's election, Membership First insisted that a merged union be for actors only without broadcasters and singers -- and then didn't win a single national board seat. Harper and Morales won two of 23 alternate seats while Unite for Strength took all the rest. The Unite for Strength board candiates are: Michelle Allsopp, Aquino, Arkin, Bob Bergen, Caldwell, William Charlton, Parvesh Cheena, Assaf Cohen, Stephen Collins, Mimi Cozzens, Ellen Crawford, Bertila Damas, Patrick Fabian, Flannery, Arye Gross, Ken Howard, Jon Huertas, Christine Lakin, Donal Logue, Allen Lulu, John Carroll Lynch, D.W. Moffett, Michael O'Neill, Conrad Palmisano, Tara Radcliffe, Sarayu Rao, Woody Schultz, Shalhoub, Mandy Steckelberg, Theba, Stacey Travis, Ned Vaughn, Vidal and Vivicca Whitsett.Other Hollywood candidates include Scott Pierce, Aubry, Robert Elliott, Jane Daly, George T. Woods, Stephen Mendel, Peter Antico, DeWayne Williams, John Solari, John Tremaine, David Dorfman, Ron Ostrow, Tony Santoro, David Hillberg, John Carroll Lynch, James Paradise and Nicholas Stankevich. No new candidates emerged in the official New York candidates list from those previously announced. Sam Robards announced last week that he was running for the presidency of the SAG New York division, challenging incumbent Mike Hodge, and leading a new faction dubbed One Strong Union in a challenge to the ruling United Screen Actors Nationwide. Robards is also seeking re-election to the New York board along with incumbent board members Justin Barrett, Andrew Dolan, Joe Narciso and Matt Servito. The other One Strong Union candidates include Corey Anker, Kelly Deadmon, Jeff Gruner, Phoebe Jonas and Gy Mirano.United Screen Actors Nationwide -- which has dominated the seats repping New York on SAG's national board in recent years -- announced two weeks ago a slate of 14 candidates for the board, including comedian Lewis Black and thesp Ezra Knight ("Law and Order").The USAN slate includes Hodge and national board incumbents Mark Blum, Rebecca Damon and Traci Godfrey. Other USAN candidates are Manny Alfaro, Dave Bachman, Marc Baron, Jay Potter, John Rothman and Kevin Scullin; all are currently on the New York division board and serve as national board alternates. 'Jersey Shore' Air SallyAnn Salsano: The way the Cast Transformed in Italia and Deena Left Nothing Unchecked

Ian Spanier/MTVDeena Nicole Cortese on "Jersey Shoreline" Season 4. Following a marathon in excess of 100 times of shooting, Jersey Shoreline creator SallyAnn Salsano just wrapped Season 5 from the hit MTV show in Seaside Levels, N.J. But tonight, as Season 4 premieres, fans will ultimately see the start of that race in Florence, Italia. And Salsano thinks it had been well worth the difficult schedule she and her team suffered to create it towards the fans. VIDEO: Snooki Versus. Italia: 6 Battles for that Guidette on 'Jersey Shoreline' Season 4 "I had been saying within the control room," Salsano informs The Hollywood Reporter. "I chuckled harder throughout the Italia season. I cried more throughout the Italia season and that i saw more drama unfold than I've seen unfold in a one season." THR spoke towards the Jersey Shoreline Boss by what don't be surprised on Season 4 and also the head lines already being produced from Season 5. THR:How did the thought of re-planting the cast to Italia happen? Salsano: You realize, it's funny we'd always like type of joked about this and spoken about this, we really should go on a holiday. We ought to all visit Italia. And like, Season 1 using the cast, we're like if the show's effective, we're all going to visit Italia together on a holiday. Therefore it was type of like almost unbelievable as a whole transitional phase greatness whenever we could get it done because the show and get it done for that show. It had been type of like among individuals moments where it came full circle. Such as the cast and myself were laughing, like 'Can you think this? All of us sitting here saying wouldn't it's great as we made it happen so we're going like a show.'We pitched it towards the network plus they loved it plus they returned and stated 'hey, let's visit Italy' and that we counseled me like, 'Game on.' However it was hard. You realize, it's difficult to do. PHOTOS: The Very Best and Worst Moments of 'Jersey Shoreline' THR: Whenever we last spoke for you, you had been within the trenches of production. Searching back now, how made it happen exercise for you personally? Salsano: It was awesome. I truly think it had been our most enjoyable seasons. And That I'm while using reference of like whenever you're a youngster abroad, most likely farther away from home compared to they had have you been for your lengthy of the time, that being stated, it wasn't like once they're in the Shoreline in Miami when you are able go outdoors and speak with anybody. They couldn't contact other people. It had been harder to a minimum of. So that they needed to depend on one another more and i believe as with any relationship, the greater time spent with someone the greater you like them and also the more they get beneath your skin. So, I believe the levels and lows are extremely much greater but additionally I believe they're connections are extremely much tight. THR:That which was your individual everywhere from Season 4? Salsano: My high was after i arrived and that i recognized that the negative stuff within the press was type of false and also the country was welcoming us with open arms. Which was certainly my own high. THR: You didn't know what to anticipate using what you had been reading through? Salsano: Yeah, because each time I visited Italia and that i met with everybody these were so lovely and were really like 'yes, yes, yes.' After which I'd read all of the press and all sorts of the reporters were calling me going 'what will you do?' And That I was like, 'I don't know, am I going insane, I'm so worried, everybody is saying it's likely to be fine.' And So I think for me personally the private high was recognizing how great everybody would be around us.Personal low, I don't know. I believe I blocked it. PHOTOS: 6 Best Fights of 'Jersey Shoreline' THR: What is your opinion audiences are likely to benefit from the most concerning the Italia season? Salsano: I believe the interaction among the cast. I believe there's a lot interaction among the cast i think its fun to look at them explore Italia. It was this type of great experience and Florence am wonderful to us and thus welcoming and i believe the children, only the kids' wide-eyed look at simply because I believe is actually refreshing and funny. THR:Did finding yourself in another country alter the cast by any means? Salsano:Yeah, I saw them do things where they'd previously quit or simply gone elsewhere. They needed to sort out it. And That I always say it is just like disappearing to school. Like for a number of these kids they resided both at home and analyzed both at home and did things like that. So for a number of these kids it was among the first occasions that they're really available and didn't possess a crutch plus they found stuff out plus they investigated and extremely labored stuff out by themselves. THR: This crew is not far from their loved ones and parents. How did they handle being to date from them? SallyAnn Salsano:It's certainly area of the story. It's without a doubt wasn't easy. Such as the one factor about these kids and this is exactly what I really like about them most, they are really just loveable figures which come from excellent houses and know who they really are and where they are available from. To ensure that's one thing which i love about them and why I believe America loves them. Therefore it was intriguing and it had been hard to allow them to have the ability to be abroad. Especially like Deena, Deena didn't even perform the Miami season. Which means this was the very first time she was truly ever abroad in her own existence. THR: In the previews, Deena Cortese really kind of breaks in Italia. Salsano: Oh, she's a walking holiday. She's a great time inside a glass. She's everything. I'd state that first experience that people had abroad, it was certainly Deena's and she or he didn't leave any stone unchecked. She required Italia by storm, singlehanded. COVER STORY: 'Jersey Shoreline' Italia: 72 Hours within the Existence of the Drama Full THR: Lately, we have seen lots of head lines about Vinny Guadagnino walking out after which Mike "The ProblemInch Sorrentino. May be the cast showing signs of exhaustion after shooting in excess of 100 days straight? Salsano:No. I believe whenever you watch the show... I'm able to only state that I'm so grateful for the press however it's always fun that i can watch what's happening within the press and understanding what's really happening in the home. So for me personally, no, I don't think it's anything related to that. I believe what went down with Vinny with what individuals are taking a chance with Mike would have happened whether there have been five days between seasons or otherwise. THR:That which was the reasoning behind shooting the times of year back-to-back? Did MTV influence that decision? Was it dependent on striking as the iron is hot? Salsano:No. Not whatsoever, it had been an innovative decision. Well It really was fun to visit Italia and find out the children get acclimated to another culture. Which being stated it had been just as fun to determine them get home and obtain back to their American existence. Enjoy it am fun to look at them go back home and find out things that they desired to do first. The things they desired to eat first everything type of stuff also it really was great.
