Imagine Entertainment cuts staffers

Brian Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment has laid off five employees, including top production exec Jeremy Steckler.Cuts come just two days after Imagine reupped its deal with Universal through 2016 -- though the formerly exclusive pact was changed to a first-look deal.Imagine prexy Michael Rosenberg said the layoffs have more to do with the changing economic landscape in the business and less to do with the new deal. Jordi Molla in talks for 'Riddick'

After coming close to nabbing the coveted villain role in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek 2," Spanish thesp Jordi Molla is taking his sinister sneer to another sci-fi franchise, as he's in negotiations to play the villain opposite Vin Diesel in David Twohy's "Riddick." Molla is in talks to play Santana, a mercenary who heads up an eight-man crew tasked with finding and killing Riddick. Production on the second "Pitch Black" sequel recently resumed after a two-month hiatus while the producers finalized financing. 2004's "The Chronicles of Riddick" grossed more than $115 million worldwide, indicating there's still plenty of interest in another sequel, with this one being made for a price. Molla most recently starred opposite Zoe Saldana as the villain in "Colombiana." In addition to co-starring alongside Johnny Depp in "Blow," Molla has also matched wits against two of the biggest movie stars in the world -- Will Smith and Tom Cruise -- as the villain in "Bad Boys II" and "Knight and Day."
